I grew up listening to Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg as a very small child. Everyone loved Tupac and Biggie. The Fugees sparked something in me before I could even claim double digits. I loved hip-hop from a very early age, but I was still too young to really appreciate it.
However, just as my brain was catching up to my passion, a classmate said to me, “Hi, my name is…”
He paused for a response. When I didn’t provide one he looked at me a bit dumbfounded. “You don’t know Slim Shady?” I dismissed the question as some White boy music. (I was still pretty limited when it came to musical tastes at the time.)
