I first met Davo about a year ago. I was at Parramatta Skatepark with a few friends, and this guy probably somewhere in his mid-30s, rocks up wearing a baggy T-shirt, saggy jeans, old school chunky skate shoes and a silver chain around his neck. A skateboard under his arm and two his two sons following behind him, he steps into the quarters section of the park and my friends and I kind of question whether he will know what he’s doing or not. But as soon as he steps on the board, we realise that this guy has got style and skill like no one else we’d ever seen. Later, after having a chat with him and a bit of cyber-stalking, I find out that this guy, Davo, used to be a pro skater for Melbourne-based company XEN Skateboards and lived in Tokyo for over a decade. I was stoked — a pro skater living in our area who shares my interest in Japan! Then a couple of weeks later, I’m at uni, running a stall at O-Week for the skate club, and Davo swings past.
