Sensory experience: coming in

This morning I conducted my first sensory ethnography ‘observation’ in the Courtyard Entrance of the Fitzwilliam Museum. I chose this for my first experience, as it’s one of two entrances to the Museum and therefore a key transitional space.

I started the experience with anticipation and excitement — after an hour of observing, listening and capturing, I was exhausted! It was really overwhelming and I found myself spending another hour afterwards reflecting, relaxing and gathering my thoughts.

Here are some reflections… firstly, as with my test-run, I recorded a video capture of arriving in the space. This time, I recorded it walking from Trumpington Street through the gate and into the entrance.
