How to Get a TWIC Card

A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is a necessary credential for commercial truck drivers who need to access secure areas of ports, maritime facilities, and vessels. Class A CDL truckers, who are licensed to drive the largest and heaviest commercial vehicles, may need to obtain a TWIC card to perform their job duties. Here are the steps that Class A CDL truckers can take to get a TWIC card.

Step 1: Determine Eligibility

Before applying for a TWIC card, Class A CDL truckers should make sure they are eligible. To be eligible for a TWIC card, applicants must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, pass a security threat assessment, and not have any disqualifying criminal offenses or immigration violations. If an applicant is found to have disqualifying factors, they will be denied a TWIC card.
