A new CBS News-YouGov survey found that former President Trump has expanded his national lead in the GOP presidential primary to 46 points. That is one of Trump’s largest margins to date.
Another finding surprised many — that more Trump voters trust him than their own friends, family, conservative media, and even religious leaders.
71% of respondents said they trust Trump to tell them what is true. While it was 63% for friends and family, 56% for conservative media figures, and 42% for religious leaders.
Some might argue that this finding is shocking, given that Trump’s presidency involved more than 30,000 false or misleading claims. Others argue that it is not surprising at all, given there is a cult of personality around Trump.
It is important to note that the pool of respondents were all Trump supporters, which means they are more likely to trust Trump than the general population.
When you look at GOP voters, rather than Trump voters, the percentage of people who trust him dropped to 53%. This shows that a majority of non-Trump GOP voters do not trust him.
