How to Think like a Social Anthropologist

After an application, a cover letter, a virtual team-fit interview, a technical skills test, and weeks of preparation spanning it all, today is the day! You have been selected for a final interview in the company’s headquarters. It’s a shoo-in, you think. You fit the job description perfectly and were blown away by the connection you had with your recruiter.

You arrive at the office half an hour before your interview to get a feel for the space. Something seems off.

Your recruiter raved at the company’s warm an inclusive culture, but the cubicles are beige and high-walled, barren of decoration; people don’t so much as glance at each other in the corridors. They said that the company offers excellent mental health services. Yet the employees sit glassy-eyed at their keyboards, catatonic. They mentioned a fully equipped staff kitchen. You glance into the break room and see a broken coffee machine and a microwave that may have never before been cleaned.
