When the plane touched down in Tokyo, it was a surreal moment. This wasn’t just any city; it was home for six transformative years of my life. Yet, as I stepped out, I was no longer a resident but a visitor, in the rabble of other visitors and first-time JETs talking about burgers and Roppongi as they are one to do often.

I was lucky; however, despite my several years in Tokyo, I had never seen Shimokitazawa, and my dear friend who lived in my Chiba apartment during my student days had also decided to move to Japan so at least I had something to do rather than just feel oddly out of place walking around tourist areas.
