Oyster cards are smart cards that can be used across London for discounted travel on public transport. You can use Oyster Cards in conjunction with season tickets, or on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Pay-as-you-go
You can add money to (‘top up’) an Oyster card at various points such as tube stations and Oyster ticket stops. It is then possible to use the card on a pay-as-you-go basis, tapping it onto scanner each time you travel. When you get a standard Oyster card, you will need to pay a £5 deposit, that will be refunded should you wish to return your card.
