No screens on windows
I’ve never thought to ask any of my European-residing pals why there are no screens on windows, on doors. Are there fewer insects in Europe? I can’t recall any mosquitos, ahh— the dream! Or are folks more inviting, sharing space with critters?
Smoking
It is more socially acceptable to smoke in Western Europe than it is in the U.S. Outdoor patios and restaurants come prepared — ashtrays on every table. I was taken aback by the warning pictures of Tracheostomies — a hole in someone’s neck surgically created to access the windpipe (in the event that you had to look this one up too) — on packs of cigarettes.
