The Andes stretch for about 9,000 kilometers, traversing 7 countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela), making it the world’s longest continuous mountain range.
It spans a width of “only” 200 to 700 kilometers, resulting in an approximate area of 3,370,000 square kilometers.
The Andes began forming around 25 to 30 million years ago during the Cenozoic era.
They house numerous impressive peaks, including Aconcagua, which is the highest peak in South America (6,962 meters).
