Despite being together for over a year and a half, I had no idea he was struggling with heroin and meth.
You may wonder how that could be possible with such heavy drugs. I have seven explanations:
- We didn’t live together. We typically saw each other 1–2 days a week. I’m assuming it was on the days we weren’t together that he was high.
- I took him at his word. In retrospect, I can look back and see the signs of addiction during our relationship. However, at the time, I accepted his explanations for some of his odd behavior. For example, he once came over to visit me and slept for 14 hours straight. I genuinely thought the poor guy was exhausted from work. I now can see that he was likely coming down from drug use.
