The deep spirit of Carnival in Italy is that of the reversal of order, even if only for a short time. During this period of feasts and parades, there is the freedom to indulge in excesses and oddities.
This year I decided to photograph a less internationally known carnival that has been taking place for 500 years in Offida, a beautiful village in Italy in the province of Ascoli Piceno.
One of the high points of Offida’s carnival celebrations is the farcical people’s bullfight, with a large ox silhouette covered in a white cloth, which takes place in the alleyways and Piazza del Popolo on Shrove Friday.
