Not too long ago, my wallet was stolen on the bus on my way home. For insurance reasons, my husband advised that we report the theft to the local police. I was immediately anxious. The police in Switzerland are known to be racist. According to a recent United Nations report, “Black people in Switzerland face everyday discrimination as well serious racial profiling by the police”.
I was worried about how they would treat me and whether they would even believe me. I was ready to give up on the whole thing, but my white husband insisted and vowed to come with me so that they wouldn’t treat me badly.
