Whether you’re coming in hot or returning to the dance party, I recommend Hairspray as a fun, educational, and incredibly important musical.
Like any musical theatre enthusiast, I’ve been familiar with Hairspray for years. I saw the full production at the Hollywood Bowl in the 2010s. I auditioned for the feature film, and I even had the opportunity to sing backup for a musical number led by Marissa Jaret Winokur a few years ago.
While I’m obviously a Hairspray superfan, sometimes it still takes a second look to understand what something is truly about and why it’s important.
