I was scanning the bookshelves at my aunt’s house over the holidays when I discovered this gem. She said if I liked Where The Crawdads Sing, I’d love this one, and she was right because I loved this book! I mean I really loved this book. It's set in the swamps of Mississippi (the Natchez Trace) in the 1920’s. Two teenage girls, from very different worlds, become intertwined in this story after committing a murder, and to survive, they must rely on each other. The girls are tethered to a world of bootleggers, murder, and racial tension and must overcome many hardships including being a teenage mother and escaping an impossible life in the swamps of Mississippi.
