During the first week of DTTPPM, I created my first user research survey and posted it on online forums to collect data about other technical writers’ experiences with documentation software. After analyzing the data from that survey, I learned a bit about the effectiveness of survey questions.
Since I’ve never created a survey for user research before, I didn’t know how to ask an effective question to get relevant information. But after going through the data, I’ve learned where I went wrong with my questions.
Week 2 was about synthesizing the data and analyzing it. I’ve rarely worked with spreadsheets, so it was also a learning experience using Google Sheets to create graphs from the data. It was interesting to see the graphs and make conclusions based on how the graphs presented the data.
