In 1999, I was first drawn West (where I lived from 2004–2022) from the East Coast, where I had lived for close to 50 years.
Why exactly?
Well…. 1973, my curiosity had been raised about Native American issues by the Wounded Knee Occupation protest in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, led by the American Indian Movement (AIM) members and their supporters.
Law school, career and family life occupied all of my time until the mid-1990s, when I finally had time for more leisure reading. One day I was browsing for books at a local bookstore in Baltimore. Remember those?
