Every year on Diwali, there are large campaigns against firecrackers. This always sparks a debate; though fireworks are very commonly used in Europe during New Years Eve, Guy Fawkes, and across the world — specifically it is only Hindu festivals which are targeted from both a societal and state context. We know that ecological sustainability is a global issue and rarely are the statistical causes of pollution discussed.
This leads us to think about a much wider issue: what is the real context of our environmental crisis, if we claim to care about the environment — and how do distinguish the pressing issue of Hindu religious freedoms in a world where we have faced 1000+ years of invasion and continue to have our indigenous land and freedoms suppressed on a daily basis?
