Colombia prides itself for being the country hosting the most bird species in the world. Whilst this is appealing to birders, I believe this still undersells Colombia as a top notch destination for natural exploration.
The reason Colombia hosts so many bird species is its spectacular geography. It has coast lines along both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and contains a large section of the Andes mountain range. This dramatic geography gives rise to a wide array of natural habitats, including the Amazon basin, cloud forests, wetlands, mangroves, coasts, islands, plains and the high altitude ice-cold Páramo tundra.
