For 18 years we’ve vacationed in all-inclusive resorts, mostly in Riviera Maya, along the Eastern coast of Mexico. The vacations were a refuge from the stress of a demanding corporate job, coupled by raising two kids, which came with endless house chores and driving from one sports class to an art class to weekend parties and so on.
The only thing that I needed out of my vacation was to be fully lazy, be fed, drink a cocktail in the evening, and enjoy the beauty of palm trees, palapas, blue skies, while listening to the sounds of waves and of people laughing.
These vacations were like coming up to breathe for a week before going back into the tsunami of to-do lists, and the eat-while-standing dinners. I don’t know how other parents do it, but I could not find any zen moments while parenting. Seemed like I was always on the run, stressed to not forget something I had to do or something I had to pack before getting out the door.
