Vibrant, hand-made jewelry with intricate, crocheted flowers and tiny beads have been arranged purposefully on a white table cloth at the Turkish Market in Berlin. Immigrant Mehmet Micoogullari stands behind the table and lines up rows of various bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings — all made by a group of women in Cappadocia, Turkey including his aunt.
“My aunt and her friends make this jewelry — a group of about 40 women,” said Micoogullari, who has been in Berlin since 2010. “I sell it here for them and when I can go back to Turkey, I give everything to them.”
