I know of this tree but I have never visited it personally. I’ve seen it featured on TV and in images and of course, it was in one of my favourite films where it became famous-Robin Hood and the Prince of Thieves
When I saw it on its side on the BBC news this morning it took me a moment to work out what was happening. I wrongly assumed it had died or some developer had chopped it down then it dawned on me that this tree is in quite a wild location. I turned up the volume and the reporter was holding back tears as she explained that it had been vandalised.
