There was a small rise in gun deaths from 2013 to 2017 and then a big uptick in 2020.
Perhaps someone will talk about school shootings, then post the graph to suggest these are the leading cause of death. Most recently, I saw the graph posted on a Covid epidemiologist’s substack, discussing possible solutions to gun violence.
I think the graph is misleading. There are a few reasons we have to break this data down to understand the problems.
First off, it lumps together homicide and suicide. Which one got worse in 2020?
