Seven years ago, I had a lovely six month holiday where I travelled throughout South and East Africa.
After I returned, I had been unwell for weeks and had just returned from a few nights stay in hospital. One hot summer night, I couldn’t breathe, I thought, gosh, dad must have been painting outside again!
So I went to the lounge to sleep on the couch and realised there was smoke everywhere. Turns out there was a house fire. Our house! I woke everyone up, my brother had been upstairs sleeping and he got out just before his room was engulfed in flames.
