I’ve been watching the gestational period for a new electric light rail system with interest. On August 1, 2023, the REM — Réseau Express Métropolitain — was born, opening to the public after years of construction and testing. It’s a much-needed expansion of the current transit system and an effort to get cars off the road and save our suffering, weary planet.
When it’s all finished — although not until 2027 — the network will have 67 kilometres of track connecting with the underground metro system and the suburban railroad.
