I Pretend to be a Sandpiper

I am a sandpiper.

My body is gray and brown,
and blend into the dreamy backdrop
with ease and intention,
on one leg or two.

I hear the sound of calming waves,
a busy bird with a pecking beak,
traveling in a cohesive group,
scurrying in the morning mist.

With each mindful step
I feel the sea’s foamy rush,
maintaining my resolve,
probing for clams in the mud.
