Around 400,000 people cross the Canadian-US border every day, traveling to entry points across the 8,891 km border for immigration, asylum-seeking, tourism, or even just a weekend of fun. However, not everyone who approaches the Canadian-US border goes with the intention of crossing to the other side. Flagpoling, also known as “border running”, is a legal process in which individuals who are seeking to obtain or renew immigration permits in Canada exit and re-enter Canada at a land border crossing for an accelerated application process.
