Since 1935, The Apollo has hosted a legendary Wednesday night “Amateur Night” pitting about a dozen contestants a week against one another. Amateur Night at the Apollo launched the careers of many stars including Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan.
