The Many Actors of the Drowned Meadow Cottage Museum

On the corner of West Broadway and Barnum Avenue in the village of Port Jefferson lies a remarkable structure from the 18th century. The residence that Culper Spy Ring member Phillips Roe once lived in was turned into a historical museum in 2022.

Although the Drowned Meadow Cottage Museum is not open to the public often, a visit that takes one through the famed history of Port Jefferson’s American Revolution ties — back when the town was known as Drowned Meadow, its colonial name — is worth it to see rare documents and a clear portrayal of Drowned Meadow’s side of the conflict first-hand.
