Ruth is a native of Oregon, age 86, and is a retired executive for a nationally known insurance company. “I guess you could say my retirement is and has been going great. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. I went solo backpacking at age 68 in Europe. That lasted for 7 wonderful months. It’s something I have always wanted to do. My eldest daughter tried her best to talk me out of it. But, like I told her, if I die, then I die doing what I always wanted to do. I have always had an adventurous spirit about me. My late husband, Jack, knew how I was, and he encouraged me to enjoy life. We both planned well financially. The usual 401k, Roth investments, and we even bought 12 acres to plant pecan trees on. We make a lot of money off those pecans. Those trees were almost wiped out a few years ago during hurricane season.
