I decided to learn French as my interest in the language was piqued when I came across a TV ad. I don’t remember what it was about but in the ad, a man and a woman were dining out at a nice French restaurant. The man attempts to order a fish dish but mistakenly asks for poison when he meant poisson(fish in French). The woman corrects him. I don’t know why exactly but that somehow sparked my interest and curiosity for the language at the same time.
Fast forward seven years, I have reaped some benefits that come with learning a new language. While the TV ad definitely helped, the prime reason I started learning French (apart from sheer fascination) was because I was moved so much by countless articles on the web convincing me how much learning a new language can improve one’s cognitive abilities. And… I was sold.
