A few weeks ago, my 11-year-old daughter and I were out buying a swimsuit for her because she had outgrown her old one.
She asked, for the umpteenth time since she was 6, why she couldn’t have a bikini. Until now, I’ve gotten away with saying, ‘Because you’re too young to wear one.’
But this time, I paused before answering.
She’s an intelligent kid. I wanted to give her a more thorough answer and, at the same time, explain a little about the world without shaming her.
