Recently, I came across a thought-provoking article by Louisa Degenhardt and her colleagues that delved into a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis comparing buprenorphine versus methadone for opioid agonist treatment (OAT). Their study shed light on the urgent need for patient-centered non-consumption outcomes in future OAT research. While we agree with their sentiment, we believe there are vital considerations that researchers should bear in mind to ensure these future studies truly align with a patient-centered approach.
