Thanks to image generators like MidJourney and DALL-E Stable diffusion has been the grabbing attention lately. While very impressive (and fun to play with), there’s seemingly little connection to the high-stakes world of particle physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Well, as it turns out, the development of these technologies have recently sparked an idea of mine for tackling a particularly challenging problem in experimental physics, one that traditional methods have struggled to address. So, let’s explore how this genAI concept is now in the conversation for the next generation of particle physics detectors.
