Big Garden Birdwatch

The letter goes on to say that taking part is easy — explaining what the survey asks those who have volunteered to undertake it, has to do. There’s a short paragraph giving advice as to how to get garden birds to visit you and then another ‘Telling us what you see is important’ even if it’s nothing at all!

The rest of the pack contains information about the ‘What, When and How’ of the survey. The big question, of course, is the ‘Why?’

Why are we asked to conduct the survey? Why is it important?

It’ll be no surprise to hear that — probably just as all over the world — wildlife (and particularly birdlife) in the UK is under constant pressure. There has been a steady decline across the spectrum — birds, butterflies, hedgehogs and the list goes on.
