Nathan Bedford Forrest is not an easy man to speak or write about; however, history should include the entirety of his life. We will not ignore his past though. Forrest was a wealthy cotton plantation owner, horse and cattle trader, real estate broker and slave trader. During his time, it was unheard of a man with his status to join any army as a private and yet he made it to general without previous military training like a Robert E. Lee or Stonewall Jackson. I was a U.S. Army officer so I still consider this as an act of treason. I cannot overlook the skillful tactics employed by these men, recognizing the proficiency with which they executed their strategies. It would be similar to brushing off the tactics of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel in later times. Not smart.
