I’ve always felt a special nostalgia for this familiar image of Colonel Sanders with his neat white suit and kind smile. As a kid, Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Original Recipe chicken was to me a special treat. Its exterior was soft and moist, unlike other fried chickens, the meat was juicy and flavorful, and the smell of spices was divine.
And what’s not to love about Colonel Sanders’ story? Before, I vaguely knew he grew up poor and yet went on to found one of the most successful franchise chains in the world. Now, I realize there is so much more to his success after reading his autobiography, “Life As I Have Known It Has Been Finger Lickin’ Good”, published in 1974.
