Tenerife, the largest and most populated of Spain’s Canary Islands, is a well-known travel destination for a myriad of reasons. Some of its most famous attractions include the resort-dotted southern coast (a favorite of vacationing Brits and retired Germans), the world’s second-largest Carnival celebration in its capital Santa Cruz, and Mount Teide: the highest point in Spain and the fourth-largest volcano in the world. Tenerife is also a popular destination for cyclists and surfers/kite surfers. However, when I spent a few days, I did none of these things. I instead spent the majority of my time exploring the various trails of Tenerife and I can honestly say I was blown away by the quality of hiking available in Tenerife.
