New York: Beauty and Blight

Hot air hangs above tracks covered in pools of rusty water
Silver streak screams by like a banshee,
the wind whipping my hair.

Doors open with a whissshhh
People push forward to find a spot.

Climbing steps from the dark womb of the city below
to bright light above — I am born into New York.

People pay no attention and zig-zag
