Setting up Windows Active Directory on AWS

Step 1: Launching a Windows Server instance in AWS

  1. Log into your AWS console and navigate to the EC2 service.
  2. Click on the “Instances” tab on the left side of the screen.
  3. Click on the “Launch Instances” button.
  4. In the AMI selection screen, type “Windows” in the search bar and select the desired Windows Server version for your instance.
  5. Choose your desired instance type and click “Next: Configure Instance Details”.
  6. In the “Configure Instance Details” screen, select your desired VPC (Virtual Private Cloud) and subnet.
  7. Expand the “Advanced Details” section and enter a startup script for your instance, if desired.
  8. Click “Add Storage” to configure the storage for your instance.
  9. Set the desired storage size and type for your instance and click “Next: Add Tags”.
  10. Add any desired tags to your instance and click “Next: Configure Security Group”.
  11. Configure the security group to allow inbound traffic on port 3389 (for RDP) and any other ports needed for your specific applications or services.
