Surviving and Thriving

When I am asked to do a podcast or interview, I often make a few bullet points that I think may be helpful for the interview. I wanted to share my outline from an interview I did with Education Leadership and Beyond — Surviving and Thriving.

My Notes/Outline

  • Fear of speaking out
  • Originality is the fine art of remembering what you hear but forgetting where you heard it.
  • Try to be correct; not necessarily politically correct.
  • Freedom of speech gives us the right to offend others, whereas freedom of thought gives them the choice as to whether to be offended.
  • Those who are determined to be ‘offended’ will discover a provocation somewhere. We cannot possibly adjust enough.
  • Be brave enough to start a conversation that matters
  • Too many are being silent because of a fear of social out casting. This leads to the loudest being mistakenly perceived as being right.
  • What happens is people can simply impose their own fears and regrets on everyone else. And when folks limit themselves, they go around limiting other people usually in a very moral fashion to try and make up for the deep pain they feel for not doing what they should have done or really wanted to do.
